What are your thoughts??????????
Nope, the "Down Low" Didn't Do It
Heterosexual black men with multiple sex partners-not bisexual men who secretly have sex with men-are responsible for high rates of HIV among black women, according to a senior official at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. "We have looked to see what proportion of infections is coming from male partners who are bisexual and found there are actually relatively few," says Kevin Fenton, director of the National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention. "More are male partners who are having female partners and are injecting drugs or using drugs or have some other risks that may put those female partners at risk of acquiring HIV." (Source: January/February 2010 issue HIV PLUS).
We do not believe that the high rate of HIV among black women can be narrowed down to any one particular factor. We do believe there are structural forces such as economics, poverty, racism, substandard education, and health disparities, just to name a few, that dictate our existence.
When all is said and done, and no matter what angle our problem is perceived from, the responsibility for our health and well-being is ultimately our own. This means getting tested, nurturing relationships before intimacy, and honoring our body as the God given temple that it is. We must guard our health as we would a strongbox full of cash; with an eagle eye and an ever vigilant mind.
